Biomimetic Hydrogels for Biomedical Applications
Victoria Suarez Jaramillo, Kianny Sanchez Armijos, Eduardo Fernández, Moises Bustamante-Torres
Biomimetic hydrogels have emerged as advanced materials that integrate biological cues and self-assembling nanostructures to more closely mimic the extracellular matrix. Combining natural and synthetic polymers, these systems enhanced biocompatibility and tunable mechanical properties. Their three-dimensional, highly hydrated networks support cell growth, making them ideal for regenerative medicine, drug delivery, and wound healing. Preparation techniques involve physical and chemical cross-linking to control stability and functionality. These hydrogels enable precise control over degradation and bioactivity, promoting effective tissue regeneration and therapeutic delivery. Despite challenges in mechanical strength and scalability, biomimetic hydrogels hold great promise for advancing biomedical applications and personalized medicine.
