Abstract. To comprehend the relaying factors behind the growth optimization of ZnO nanostructures, the needs to understand the cause of preferences in the enhancement of desired properties is essential. Sol gel alkalinity level is one of the critical processing parameters to be focused on as the ionic equilibrium of the Zn2+, OH- and their surrounding conditions would determine the ZnO seed film properties. In the present work, the systematic changes on the properties of ZnO seed thin film upon pH increase of the sol gel are studied. From the morphology observation, sol gel alkalinity up to 9 maintained the particle dispersity. The alkalinity increase resulted in lattice parameters expansion up to pH 9. At pH 10, parameters shrinking is observed due to dissolution of newly formed ZnO induced by the excessive OH- ions. Correspondingly, the light transmittivity and energy band gap of the seed thin film is seen highest at pH 9 of ~85% and 3.28 eV compared to pH7 film (~83% and 3.27 eV).
