Abstract. This study compares the performance of conventional and shingle photovoltaic (PV) modules under the environmental conditions of El Jadida, focusing on energy and exergy efficiency, performance ratio, and environmental and economic impacts. The data show that the cell temperature of the shingle module is about 2.25 oC lower than that of the standard module. Its daily energy production is higher by 2.11% compared with the standard module and its exergy production higher by 2.31% compared with that of the standard module. Shingle technology has an environmental and economic impact of a further decrease of the CO2 emissions of 0.27 t/yr plus an economic benefit of an annual amount of about 3.90 $ over the traditional module. Lastly, the average performance ratio of the module is more stable throughout the diurnal cycle, which means that the performance is more consistent and better at operating under the conditions that are seen in reality.
