Microwave-Assisted Synthesis of Ionic Liquids: Green Solvents for Modern Chemistry
Guocai Tian
Ionic liquids, as one of the new green solvents, which have important application potential in catalysis, electro-chemistry, biomass conversion and other fields since their high thermal stability and small volatility, and controllable physico-chemical properties. However, traditional synthesis methods have problems such as long reaction time, high-energy consumption, and many by-products. Microwave assisted synthesis technology, with its efficient heating, precise temperature control, and energy-saving advantages, has become a key breakthrough point for the large-scale production of ionic liquids. This chapter introduces the structure, physical and chemical properties, and applications of ionic liquids. It provides a systematic review of the current research status, reaction mechanisms, existing problems, optimization strategies, industrial application cases of microwave-assisted synthesis of the ionic liquids, and explores their future development directions.
