Applicative Potential of Bioactive Glass Materials in the Context of Military Medicine
Olga KĘDZIA, Małgorzata LUBAS, Agata DUDEK
Abstract. The chapter highlights the significance and potential of bioactive glass in military medicine, discussing its applications in both clinical and field practice. Bioglass is a material that forms strong bonds with biological tissues, exhibiting both bioactivity and biocompatibility. By adjusting its chemical composition, it is possible to obtain materials that support the regeneration of bones, soft tissues, and blood vessels, as well as possess antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Examples of bioglass applications in dressings, surgical tools, implants, and biodegradable scaffolds are discussed. The experimental section presents the outcomes of investigations on porous 45S5 bioglass-based materials derived from bioresources, demonstrating high porosity, low density, and promising potential as temporary scaffolds for bone tissue regeneration.
