Nanoparticle-Based Approaches for Reduced Immunity

Jibanananda Mishra, Jiban Jyoti Panda

Our immune system performs a significant role in defending our body against countless pathogens, but dysregulated or hyperactive immune responses can lead to chronic inflammatory disorders, autoimmune diseases, transplant rejection, and increased susceptibility to numerous infections. Nanoparticle (NP)-based strategies for reduced immunity represent a fast-evolving field with the potential to transform the treatment of immune-related disorders and improve patient outcomes. To address these challenges, various researchers have exploited the distinctive properties of nanoparticles (NPs) to fine-tune and modulate the immune system’s activities. Meanwhile, various NP-based approaches, including nanomaterials, nanocarriers, and nanotherapeutics, are designed to achieve reduced immunity. These approaches involve a variety of strategies, ranging from immunosuppression for organ transplantation and autoimmune disease management to the prevention of unwanted inflammation in response to infection or injury. In this article, we have explored the intricate mechanisms and promising stratagems that have transpired at the juncture of nanotechnology and immunology.
