Superalloys for Blade Applications

N.V. Ramesh Maganti

Superalloys are engineered materials that provide exceptional performance in extreme environments by exhibiting high temperature strength, creep resistance, oxidation and corrosion resistance, and thermal fatigue resistance which make them indispensable in aerospace, power generation, rocket engines and various industrial applications. Thus, the superalloys enable the development of advanced technologies and improve the reliability and efficiency of critical systems. The current chapter focuses on types, properties of superalloys, applications in manufacturing of blades which are used in aerospace, power generation, rocket engine and chemical processing industries, manufacturing methods, failure analysis of blades and future trends. The important challenges such as new superalloy development, composition tailoring, waste blade recycling, prediction models, microstructure degradation, deformation behaviour, durability, residual lifespan etc have to be explored.
