Study on plasma electrolytic polishing (PeP) of deeper channel structures

Abstract. Plasma electrolytic polishing is a very effective method of polishing, especially for surfaces that are very structured. One problem is narrow channels with a large aspect ratio. The study aims to determine at which processing parameters the polishing effect stops or unacceptable results can be expected. Using channels with a width of approximately 360 µm, depths of up to 5 mm are examined. The starting point is wire-eroded channels, which are analyzed for their roughness and edge structure after PEP processing. Based on an ideal working voltage for the selected material, the polishing effect is examined for four processing times. The geometry of the test samples can also be used to analyze whether there is an optimal positioning for PeP of deep channels. By slightly changing the working voltage, it is checked to what extent the depth effect of PeP can be increased.
