Abstract. Dynamic characteristics analysis of structure is a very old and almost 5 to 6 decades old area of research. Many attempts have been made by many research in establishing the mathematical model to demonstrate a suitability of the model for a specific application. In open literature, plenty of literatures are available in the area of simple beam structures including Analytical model and Finite Element model. When it comes to structure attached with lumped masses, discrete springs and damper still many research work is going on. The present work reports the finite element based mathematical model with a provision to incorporate the discrete spring and mass in the structure. A systematic parametric study is conducted considering the range of springs and masses, individually and in combination, extracted the dynamic characteristics like natural frequency and mode shapes. Limited experimental results are reported supporting the results obtained by the finite element method approach which is an important addition to knowledge.
