Abstract. Self-compacting concrete (SCC) has emerged as a revolutionary material in the construction industry due to its ability to flow and fill formwork under its own weight without the need for mechanical vibration. The development of SCC has significantly improved construction efficiency and quality. One promising approach to further enhance the properties and performance of SCC is the incorporation of photocatalysts. Photocatalysts, such as titanium dioxide (TiO2) and zinc oxide (ZnO), have the ability to accelerate concrete hardening, improve mechanical strength, enhance durability, and reduce environmental pollution by degrading organic contaminants. This review paper provides a comprehensive overview of the use of different photocatalysts in SCC. It discusses the properties of various photocatalysts, their mechanisms of action in concrete, and their effects on the properties of SCC at fresh and hardened state. The review also explores the challenges and future prospects of using photocatalysts in SCC production, including issues related to cost, long-term performance, and environmental impact. Overall, this review aims to provide valuable insights into the application of photocatalysts in SCC and their potential to revolutionize the construction industry.
