Influence of Single-Mode and Multimode Fiber Laser Surface Micromachining of DLC Coatings

Abstract. This paper presents a study on the impact of single-mode and multimode fiber lasers on the texturing of diamond-like carbon coating surface (DLC). By varying laser process parameters, researchers analyzed how the geometric profile of grooves on a coated surface changed. The experimental results revealed significant differences based on the laser beam mode, suggesting precise control over the properties of the DLC (diamond-like carbon) layer using an infrared laser beam. DLC coatings were applied on stainless steel 1.4034 using PVD magnetron sputtering deposition.
