Plants contain a wide range of phytochemicals, including flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, and other metabolites. The nanomaterials have significant implications in current therapeutic approaches for various diseases, including cancer. Herbal extracts offer a safer pathway for the generation of nanomaterials, as the secondary metabolites present in these extracts act as stabilizing and reducing agents, leading to the formation of nanoparticles (NPs). These plant extract-derived NPs find diverse applications in various fields, particularly in nanomedicine. This review focuses on the recent advancements in the biomedical applications of such nanomaterials, specifically for cancer treatment and combating viral infections.
