The LE Model Laser Extensometers are precision, wide-range instruments specifically designed for accurate, non-contact measurement of strain on various materials under tensile or compressive conditions. They may also be utilized for other applications where non-contact measurement is desired. The LE models are completely self-contained and are housed in a single compact enclosure. They take advantage of the latest laser technology in order to achieve high performance with minimal maintenance.
The Model LE Laser Extensometers provide: a digital display; 4 button keypad; analog output; and an RS-232 computer interface; all of which are located on the back panel. Instrument operation may be from the back panel or remote via the RS232 interface.
Although these instruments are designed to handle a wide range of measurement applications, the Model LE Laser Extensometers are easy to operate. They utilize a unique scanning laser beam technique to measure dimension changes from one side of the subject, eliminating the need for a scan receiver on the opposite side. For special applications requiring transmission around or through a specimen or other object, alternate methods can be implemented.
Since 1974 Glass Fab Inc. has met customers stringent specifications by providing fabricated parts made of optical glass, filter glass, fused quartz and silica, low expansion materials, and various other optical materials. Because of this, Glass Fab has grown to become a world leader in fabricating quality optical blanks.
With over 100,000 lbs of raw inventory, our skilled craftsmen can fabricate most parts rapidly and consistently. Most materials are melt lot controlled so we can provide traceable optical data with orders. With our test equipment (where the material quality and color will allow), we can select to specifications beyond the manufacturers standard specs including bubble quality, stress birefringence, striae, and homogeneity.
Our stock consists of, but not limited to, the following:
Materials designed for their index and dispersion properties. Typical use are in lens systems. Our stock includes materials from: CDGM, Corning, Hikari, Hoya, Ohara Pilkington, Schott, Sumita, and others.
Materials designed for their transmission or absorption properties. Extremely varied uses from medical to fire detection systems. Our stock includes materials from: Hoya, Isuzu, Kopp, Optima, Schott, and others.
Materials with low thermal expansion and high transmission. Uses range from substrates to high powered laser systems. Our stock includes materials from: Corning, GE Momentive, Heraeus, Nikon, Ohara, Tosoh, and others.
Materials with low thermal expansion (some extremely low). Typical uses are substrates, test flats, and mirrors. Our stock includes materials from: CDGM, Corning, Ohara, Schott, and others.
Our stock includes some ceramics, float glasses, and others.
With our ovens, we can re-anneal most materials to fine and precision annealed tolerances. We can also reslump most materials into sizes beyond the raw material size (ie. taking 40mm thick strip and making material 50mm thick).

Light is what nestles deeply into the molecules that make up matter, and makes it possible for matter to be what it is. Although its roots extend deeply into the origins of the world we live in, there's still much that we don't know about light. The knowledge that we gain in our quest for understanding will undoubtedly reveal, little by little, the "landscape" of our world in the most quintessential meaning of the word. In our pursuit of light, we at Hamamatsu Photonics are building a foothold for exploring what is still unknown to mankind, and for creating new industries for the future.
In our Industrial Development Laboratory, built in 2008, we carry out research in such areas as power generation and material modification using light energy.

Hamamatsu's joint research successfully forms a multi-layered polycrystalline ceramic surface through laser shock compression technology.
Hamamatsu, Japan July 17, 2015 The Graduate School for the Creation of New Photonics Industries, an academic institution affiliated with Hamamatsu Photonics K.K., has announced the discovery of a new technique to reform the surface of ceramic materials with laser-shock compression technology, a result which may contribute to the development of new materials. By irradiating the surface of zirconia (yttria-stabilized zirconia) with a high-intensity short-pulse laser, a multi-layered polycrystalline structure was formed on the material with a penetration depth of 130 microns.
